gender equality

established in 2011, Senegal's school for husband equip respected male community members such as imams and retired soldiers with training in positive masculinity, maternal health and family planning.

support comes from the United Nations ans Senegal's ministry of women, family, gender and child protection.

these men return to their villages as gender champions, using sermons, home visits and peer education to encourage husbands to:

  -support their wives in prenatal care and hospital deliveries

  -help with domestic duties

  -reject forces marriages

  -embrace family planning and reproductive health services

The program spans over 20 schools and has trained more then 300 men. Participating communities have seen measurable improvements, including higher use of hospital childbirth, increased acceptance of contraception and fewer forced child marriages;

While maternal mortality in Senegal remains high at 237 deaths per 100,000 live births, these interventions are proving to be powerful levers, not only for women's rights but for public health and social transformation.
